Hugh’s career began in Pittsburgh where he produced and directed Mister Rogers Neighborhood. He later moved to New York City where he began directing live television drama working with such notables as Leslie Nielsen, Sally Kellerman and Lena Horne.
From there, his career expanded to include film, episodic television, sitcoms, soap operas and documentary productions. Hugh has had the privilege of working with talented performers such as John C. Reilly, Lily Tomlin, Tyne Daly, LeVar Burton, Jeff Goldblum, Seth Green, and Kermit the Frog. He co-wrote and Executive Produced the feature film Dogboys now airing on Showtime starring Tia Carrere, Bryant Brown, and Dean Caan. Other clients have included Viacom Distribution (The Adventures of Superboy), ABC Network (One Life To Live, Loving), Disney, Nickelodeon, Comedy Central (Crank Yankers), PBS, and The Jim Henson Company (Sid the Science Kid).
Hugh has also directed many of the most outstanding children’s series in television today namely The Pajanimals, Johnny and The Sprites, Between the Lions, Zoom, Bear in the Big Blue House, The Magic School Bus, the new music series Lomax the Hound of Sound, Where In The World Is Carmen Sandiego?, Super Sloppy Double Dare, and Reading Rainbow. He is a pioneer in the field of motion capture real-time animation directing the award winning Jay Jay the Jet Plane and the innovative performance capture animated series Sid the Science Kid and Splash and Bubbles produced by The Jim Henson Digital Puppetry Studio for PBS.
Martin isn't limited to working in the U.S. As an Irish citizen, he was directing in Belfast, Northern Ireland on the popular NBC/Universal Kids series THE PAJANIMALS and was nominated for another Daytime Emmy as Best Director on that series.
After completing production on Nick Jr.'s live-action series MUTT & STUFF produced by the legendary Sid and Marty Krofft Pictures, Hugh directed two one-hour Mutt & Stuff specials starring David Arquette and Randy Jackson. He then went on to direct a Nickelodeon pilot project MAYIM'S WONDERLAB starring Mayim Bialik from THE BIG BANG THEORY. Hugh most recently finished production on the new BBC children's series MOON AND ME from the creator of TELETUBBIES.
